French Chief of Naval Staff visits National Security College
The National Security College at ANU was privileged to host a visit recently by the French Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Bernard Rogel, on 12 May. Admiral Rogel presented a lecture for participants on one of the College’s senior executive development courses for Australian Government officials.
The College was pleased to host this event in partnership with the Royal Australian Navy and to welcome the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett AO CSC, as well as His Excellency Mr Christophe Lecourtier, Ambassador of France to Australia. Alumni of previous courses also attended for this special event.
Policy practitioners from across the Australian national security community had the opportunity to hear candid perspectives on the way France sees its strategic challenges as well as the major opportunities ahead in the Australia-France security relationship, both in relation to the future submarine program and more widely.
Admiral Rogel drew on the experience of his distinguished career of service and command across the French nuclear-powered and nuclear-armed submarine fleets. The Admiral’s visit underscored the growing role of the National Security College in Australian security and defence engagement with key international partners, both in the Indo-Pacific and globally.
