PhD scholarships

The ANU offers a range of scholarship options for domestic and international students wishing to pursue PhD study in the College. These include the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) and the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS).

The closing dates for scholarship applications (for commencement the following year) are:

  • International applicants - 31 August
  • Australian citizens/permanent residents - 31 October

Competition for scholarships at ANU is exceptionally intense. Candidates normally require a first class honors (H1) degree (or its equivalent) to stand a reasonable chance in each round of awards. Your referees' reports and a well-argued thesis proposal in an area relevant to the work of the NSC are also very important.

Permanent employees of the Australian Public Service may also apply for one of the prestigious Sir Roland Wilson Foundation PhD Scholarships awarded annually. For information on the application process go to Sir Roland Wilson Foundation Scholarships.
