Research interests

Anthony’s main research interests are in the area of American grand strategy, geopolitics in the Middle East and the transformation of security hierarchies in the international system, particularly in the post-Cold War world. His theoretical interests lie in neoclassical realism.

Thesis topic

Anthony’s PhD dissertation is on United States grand strategy in the Middle East. It specifically focuses on the three distinct periods in U.S. grand strategy in the region: first, 1979 – 2001; second, 2001 – 2008; and third, 2008 – 2016. These periods are understood to capture three distinct cycles, where in each of them, the U.S. altered the direction and objective of their grand strategy in the Middle East. Accounting for these changes is the central focus of his research.
