From city streets to country roads: NSC in Victoria for Community Consultations

Sally Bulkeley, Dr Helen Haines MP and Sharryn Parker
NSC

As part of NSC’s Community Consultations initiative, our team travelled through Victoria from 10–15 August, meeting with locals in Wangaratta, Werribee, Melbourne and Traralgon. These consultations are about listening to people from various walks of life – hearing their ideas, concerns and lived experiences.

The NSC team had the opportunity to speak with a diverse cross-section of Australians, including a doorstop discussion with Dr Helen Haines MP and Joanne Ryan MP. The team also met with community and charity-based organisations, each offering valuable insights of issues at a local and regional level.

We’d like to extend our thanks to everyone contributed to these discussions. From the bustling Melbourne CBD to the scenic landscapes of Traralgon, this visit underscored the value of ongoing engagement and listening to voices across the country to deepen our understanding of Australian attitudes towards national security.

To contribute to this national study, share what security means to you as part of our Community Consultations initiative – every submission, big or small, will help shape our understanding of Australian attitudes to security, risk and resilience.
