This two-day program will familiarise course participants with the strategic national security drivers of the AUKUS partnership and the two AUKUS “pillars”.

Australia’s planned acquisition of nuclear powered submarines presents significant capability, support and policy challenges for Australia; AUKUS partners have identified an Optimal Pathway to achieve the construction and delivery of SSN-AUKUS as an enduring nuclear-powered submarine capability for Australia. The program will consider the capability that nuclear powered submarines (SSNs) provide Australia, the science behind nuclear propulsion, and technological, workforce and social complexities and challenges associated with basing and operating SSNs.
