This program introduces participants to Australia’s national security eco-system including the processes, practices and challenges that shape the ‘how’ of national security policy and decision-making.

Australia’s national security eco-system is complex, and is shaped by democratic institutions, federal and state-level bureaucracies, a national intelligence community and an intersection of external influences including politics, media, and the private and non-profit sectors. It is essential that those who work in the national security enterprise can navigate this complexity.

Aimed at early-career policy practitioners including graduates and those entering the public service for the first time, this program provides participants with a working understanding of the processes, practices and challenges of policy development and implementation in support of Australia’s national security priorities.
