On 25 June 2024, NSC – in partnership with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) and the International IDEA – hosted a public conversation to explore the future of elections in Australia.

The Hon Clare O'Neil MP, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Cyber Security, delivered a keynote address highlighting some of the challenges facing Australian democracy, following opening remarks from Australian Electoral Commissioner, Tom Rogers.


 

The subsequent panel discussion focused on the future of elections and how public trust in the integrity of our electoral systems can be strengthened. It was chaired by Ms Therese Pearce Laanela, Head of Electoral Processes, International IDEA and featured the following esteemed experts:
