Message from the Head of College: May 2026

Delegates at the Sweden engagement hosted by NSC.
Jed Buchanan, NSC

May was a full month across the education programs at the ANU National Security College. A highlight was our executive level two program for Australian Government officials, including a visit to Tokyo for briefings on this key strategic partner's security challenges and priorities.

More widely, much of our work had an international focus, including a visit by a large Swedish defence delegation and a senior Latvian official, part of our deepening connection with Nordic-Baltic nations to learn from their experience in comprehensive security.

And shortly I will visit Singapore as part of the Australian contingent at the Asian security summit or Shangri-La Dialogue, to take the pulse on strategic risks and opportunities in the Indo-Pacific.

We continued outreach on our major community consultation findings, providing briefings to government departments, military education programs and political audiences on Australian public attitudes and security concerns.

We are also working actively on designing the next phase of our Community Consultation and engagement journey, following a commitment at our recent conference to make the most of the College's position as a trusted hub for dialogue, research and policy thinking on resilience and preparedness.

Stay tuned for announcements of our next initiatives on that crucial agenda.
