On 5 August, the ANU National Security College welcomed the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung’s (FES) Asia Foresight Group, along with colleagues from ANU and RAND Australia, for a forum on preparedness and resilience.
The FES Asia delegation brought together prominent scholars from India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Thailand, fostering a rich exchange of perspectives.
Discussions explored:
- using preparedness and resilience as a frame for harnessing our limited resources to the management of shocks and risks
- the importance of involving society in national security conversations
- options for middle powers in the absence of a great power consensus
- balancing attention between geo-strategic and climate-related threats.
A big thank you to all who contributed to this thought-provoking and timely conversation.
