NSC hosts maritime information sharing workshop in Colombo
In January 2025, NSC organised a 5 day workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka, titled New frontiers in maritime information sharing in the Indian Ocean.
Bringing together more than 100 senior maritime domain awareness (MDA) practitioners from around 18 countries, the workshop focused on new frontiers in MDA, including the following key themes:
- new information sharing platforms
- developments in satellite and undersea sensing technologies
- information sharing on new threats such as protection of maritime critical infrastructure and cyber and
- environmental monitoring.
The NSC team included David Brewster, Anthony Bergin, Simon Bateman and Ellen Bache. It was part of a series of workshops on regional MDA information sharing being held with support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. These are part of a broader Australian government initiative to enhance regional collaboration on maritime security in the Northeast Indian Ocean.
