The staff of the ANU National Security College (NSC) recently gathered for their 2024 planning day. The historic Cuppacumbalong Homestead in the Tharwa Valley provided an ideal place to reflect on our vision, assess progress and strategise for the future, away from the pace and distractions of our daily work.

The day included valuable insights from our new Board member Professor Lachlan Blackhall, ANU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), and Dr Duncan Grove, Deputy Director-General, Digital and Technology at the Office of National Intelligence. Their presentations underscored the importance of innovation and digital transformation in advancing Australia’s national interests.

In addition, distinguished former security leaders and ANU Professors of Practice George Brandis and Duncan Lewis gave candid guidance on working with government. The day concluded with team challenges and a foresighting exercise led by the NSC Futures Hub, encouraging staff to navigate future challenges and opportunities in ensuring the College continues to deliver for nation and University alike.

The planning day reaffirmed NSC’s dedication to providing high-quality education, research and policy engagement to equip the nation for a secure future. It reinforced our ability to harness the diverse skills and backgrounds of an extraordinary team. Thank you to all the speakers and to everyone who helped organise the event, including our wonderful hosts.
