Strengthening Australia–PNG strategic understanding

Flags of PNG and Australia
NSC/Canva

NSC hosted a dialogue – in partnership with DFAT – exploring the history, opportunities and the strategic significance of the Australia-PNG relationship under the new Alliance.

Discussions reinforced the depth, complexity and enduring importance of this relationship – one grounded in history, shaped by evolving regional dynamics, and increasingly central to our collective security and prosperity.

Importantly, the program focused on understanding PNG’s worldview, how it sees itself, its responsibilities as a sovereign Pacific state, and its place within the region.
