Dr Joseph Voros holds a PhD in theoretical physics (on mathematical extensions to the General Theory of Relativity). He spent several years in internet-related companies, including a stint at the Netscape Communications Corporation in Silicon Valley, California, in the latter 1990s, and has been a professional futurist for over 25 years. Most of this time was spent at Swinburne University of Technology in various roles, including as a futures intelligence scanner/analyst in the office of the Vice-Chancellor, and as a researcher and lecturer in the Master of Strategic Foresight program, with which he was associated for its entire 18-year run (2001-2018).

Since 2020 he has been an independent futures and foresight researcher, educator and consultant, which has included visiting fellowships at the Australian Defence College. He remains associated with Swinburne as an Adjunct Professor while he assists his current PhD students to finish.
