Dr Dilnoza Ubaydullaeva

Dr. Dilnoza Ubaydullaeva is a Lecturer at the National Security College, Australian National University.

Prior to joining ANU, she was a Lecturer in Government at Flinders University and an Honorary Research Fellow at the ANU Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies (Middle East and Central Asia). Dilnoza’s research interests include securitisation theory, the geopolitics of Central Eurasia, radicalisation, Russian foreign policy in Central Asia and the nexus of security and policymaking in higher education.  Her research has been published in leading academic journals, including Europe-Asia Studies, Journal of Political Ideologies, Problems of Post-Communism, Central Asian Survey and Central Asian Affairs. Dilnoza is the author of the monograph ‘Internationalisation versus Securitisation: Nation Building Through Higher Education in post-Soviet Uzbekistan’ (Palgrave Macmillan, 2026). Her book examines how the security discourse of the state can shape policy choices. She also writes opinion pieces on great power politics, security and geopolitics in Eurasia and higher education policy for leading policy and media platforms, including The Conversation, The Interpreter (Lowy Institute), The Strategist (Australian Strategic Policy Institute) and The Diplomat.

Dilnoza obtained her PhD in Political Sciences and International Relations at the Australian National University. She was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University. She was also a Visiting Researcher under the DAAD-Tsukuba Research Program for Central Eurasian Studies at the University of Tübingen, Germany in 2013.  Dilnoza is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. In recognition of her teaching at ANU, Dilnoza received the ANU Award for Excellence in Education.
