Dr Euan Graham

Dr Euan Graham is a prominent commentator, policy analyst and former practitioner specialising in Indo-Pacific defence and security. He has extensive professional experience in the region, including over a decade living, studying and working in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, and another decade in Australia. Dr Graham was formerly with the British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office as a senior researcher, including diplomatic assignments in North Korea and the Philippines. He obtained his doctorate from the Australian National University in 2003.

Dr Graham's research spans military strategy and deterrence in the Indo-Pacific, Australia's regional strategic and defence partnerships, Southeast Asia and the South China Sea, the Korean Peninsula, AUKUS and Britain's Indo-Pacific defence presence. He has published prolifically, including short and long-form reports on these and other themes, and authored two books, on Japan's sea lane security (2006) and the Australia-China security dynamic (2023). He is a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and an Adjunct Fellow with the UK-based Council on Geostrategy.
