Professor Tanya Notley
Dr Tanya Notley is a Professor in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts and the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University. She is internationally recognised for her extensive experience working with NGOs, government agencies, universities and the United Nations agencies in the areas of digital inclusion and media literacy. Dr Notley’s research outputs are often practice-based and policy-focused with a focus on equity, social justice and capacity building amongst disadvantaged and marginalised groups.
She has led 10 media literacy research projects since 2017 including collaboration with more than 20 industry partners. She currently leads two longitudinal national surveys: one on adult media literacy and one on young people and news literacy, and a national project that examines the role media literacy can play in addressing misinformation.
Dr Notley is a founding member of the Australian Media Literacy Alliance, serving as the Co-Chair 2020-23. She serves on media literacy project advisory panels for several organisations and is regularly interviewed by a diverse range of media organisations about media policy, misinformation, social media and news engagement.
