Another successful delivery in our national security professional development program

In February, NSC’s How Canberra works program brought together practitioners from across Australia for two days of focused learning and practical insight into how Australia defines its national interests and how policy is shaped within a complex, multi‑actor system.

Participants deepened their understanding of Australia’s security architecture, engaged directly with academics, expert associates, and senior officials, and strengthened the cross‑agency networks that make national security cooperation effective. Many left with sharper strategic awareness, greater confidence navigating the national security machinery, and new connections that will support them throughout their careers.

Building a more prepared, resilient and informed national security community starts with investing in people – and this cohort demonstrated the impact that investment can unlock.

A huge thank you to our speakers, facilitators and the emerging leaders who brought commitment and curiosity to every session.

This program is scheduled to run again on 24–25 August 2026
