NSC hosts Kevin Rudd for a discussion on Australia’s strategic environment

The ANU National Security College was pleased to welcome back its founder, former Australian Prime Minister the Hon Dr Kevin Rudd AC, for a private roundtable discussion with NSC associates, ANU academics and staff.

The discussion – held under the Chatham House Rule – focused on Australia’s changing strategic environment. Dr Rudd shared his insights from his time as Australia's Ambassador in Washington, the AUKUS partnership, the Australia–US alliance and Taiwan. He also reflected on the evolving role of China in the Indo-Pacific and the importance of middle powers working together.

Dr Rudd spoke to his enduring connection to the College and its mission.

"When I set up NSC, my hope was that Australia's national security community would speak a common national security language," he said.

An alumnus of ANU, Dr Rudd also joined a discussion about the role of universities, education and scholarships in developing the expertise Australia needs to prepare the next generation of security leaders.
