Australia-Europe security links
The ANU National Security College (NSC) recently conducted high-level consultations across a range of European capitals, to advance Australia-Europe security ties, share strategic perspectives, and prepare for closer collaboration on resilience and preparedness. We appreciate the strong support from Australian embassies and their networks in ensuring the impact of this visit.
Head of NSC Professor Rory Medcalf AM led a delegation including former Australian Electoral Commissioner Tom Rogers AO and former Australian Ambassador to NATO and the EU, Caroline Millar, for programs in Stockholm, Warsaw and Rome, following strategic talks in Paris and visit to NATO HQ in Brussels.
Meetings with governments, universities and think tanks are preparing the way for potential collaboration in national security education and dialogue, including with the Swedish National Defence University in Stockholm and the NATO Defence College in Rome. This is against the backdrop of enhanced Australia-Europe engagement including progress towards an Australia-EU defence and security agreement and the evolving NATO partnership with key Indo-Pacific countries. Countering disinformation, protecting democratic institutions and crisis preparedness were core topics across our visit and will connect with NSC's deepening agenda on these vital issues.
